Product Overview:

Autism is a neurodevelopment disorder generally thought to be based on a combination of genetic and environmental factors. The disease is diagnosed through assessment of behaviors including social interactions, verbal and non-verbal communication and compulsive or repetitive behaviors. The diagnostic behaviors can affect individuals differently, thus creating a spectrum of behaviors and severity in the affected population. Signs of this disorder often appear in early childhood, and the early environmental influences are not well understood. Studies in the past 10 years suggest that the biological basis of Autism stems from abnormalities in the brain white matter, which connects communication between different parts of the brain, and does not affect intelligence. More recently genetic differences that affect gene regulation in the brain have been associated with Autism.

Serum is used for researching the causes, diagnosis, supportive care and treatment of Autism. Patient samples can be used by researchers to investigate biomarker and diagnostic development, pre-clinical research validation, and drug toxicity and efficacy.
